LG Electronics South Africa was managing a complex import programme across multiple origins with shipment delays, escalating port storage costs and no reliable visibility across their logistics pipeline. The cost base was growing and the team was spending significant time chasing updates rather than managing the business.

TSI Central Station took over full logistics management. Our team restructured the import process, introduced proactive port management to eliminate detention and demurrage charges and deployed the TSI Digital Control Tower to give LG full real-time visibility across every active shipment.

Detention and demurrage charges are one of the most significant hidden costs in South African logistics. Containers sit at ports because documentation is late, clearing agents are slow or nobody is watching the clock. The importer absorbs the cost.

400 to 600 containers a month. And a logistics innovation that changed the industry.

Procter and Gamble South Africa needed a logistics partner that could handle high-volume container operations with precision. TSI Central Station took responsibility for the full transport cycle: collecting containers from port, managing storage, handling demurrage disputes and coordinating redelivery to P&G's distribution network across South Africa.

At peak, TSI was managing between 400 and 600 containers per month for P&G. The scale demanded systems, processes and a team that could execute consistently under pressure. TSI delivered.

During the relationship, TSI introduced a logistics model that went on to become industry standard. Rather than routing all stock through Johannesburg before redistribution to other regions, TSI operated direct non-stop deliveries to Cape Town from Johannesburg using a two-driver relay system. Stock went straight from the Johannesburg hub to Cape Town without intermediate handling, then on to Port Elizabeth. It reduced transit time, cut handling costs and gave P&G faster stock availability in their regional markets. The model, pioneered by TSI for P&G, is now how most large South African logistics programmes are run.

The innovation TSI introduced

TSI was the first logistics operator in South Africa to run direct non-stop deliveries from Johannesburg to Cape Town using a two-driver relay model. Stock went straight to the region without passing through an intermediate hub. It reduced transit time, cut handling and got stock onto retail shelves faster. What TSI built for P&G is now how the industry operates.

This client had used the same clearing agent for 20 years. The relationship felt comfortable but the cost structure had never been properly examined. When TSI conducted a like-for-like comparison of what the client was paying versus what the service actually cost, the gap was significant. Finance charges, facility fees and markup on supplier payments had been quietly compounding for years.

TSI took over the full logistics operation. We paid suppliers directly and immediately, eliminating the financing fees that had been built into the previous arrangement. TSI took over local deliveries from the warehouse and deployed the TSI live proof-of-delivery system, which captured confirmed delivery within 10 minutes of each drop.
